The footprint in the living room is only one part of planning a sofa purchase. The furniture must also travel from the agreed delivery point to that position. A suitable width at its destination does not establish whether a staircase, lift or apartment doorway allows access. Review the entire route before buying.
First establish what will actually arrive. A sofa may come as one large piece, several modules or a unit with removable components. The specific package dimensions and permitted assembly arrangement matter. Do not assume arms or feet can be removed because another model allowed it.
Divide the route into sections
Begin at the delivery handover point. Are there steps, a narrow entrance hall or several turns? Record the tightest openings and places where the item must rotate. Measure the usable opening rather than merely an external door-frame dimension.
Handles, handrails, lights and fixed fittings can reduce clearance. A door that cannot open fully needs particular attention. Do not remove components on your own to make an uncertain transport assumption work. Agree any necessary measures with the responsible people and delivery provider.
For a lift, consider internal dimensions, its doorway and permitted load. A package can fit the floor area yet fail at the entrance or because it cannot turn. Staircases add spatial constraints that cannot be reduced to one width measurement.
Discuss package dimensions with the seller
Give the seller the critical locations and measurements. Ask which details the delivery team needs to assess the route. Photographs can add context but do not replace relevant dimensions. Keep important answers with the exact model identification.
A diagonal movement may appear plausible in a sketch and still fail because of ceiling height or turning space. Treat your drawing as an initial check rather than transport approval. When uncertain, a professional assessment before purchase is better than an improvised attempt under time pressure.
Separate the delivery service from your responsibilities
Read whether delivery ends at the kerb, building entrance or intended room. Check assembly, packaging removal and appointment arrangements too. These are conditions of the actual order and can differ between offers.
If the service stops outside the building, the remaining route needs an appropriate, safe plan. A heavy item should not be carried through a difficult staircase by unsuitable helpers recruited at the last moment. A low delivery fee does not resolve that issue.
Prepare the final position
In the room, check orientation and any opened sofa-bed configuration. Sockets or controls must remain accessible where the model requires them. A sofa that reaches the room can still face the wrong way or have an unusable opening path.
Finally, compare the complete process: suitable modules, an assessed access route, an adequate delivery service and a prepared location. A version that works only through several unverified assumptions is not yet a dependable choice. A different module arrangement can simplify the purchase even when both sofas would occupy the same outer dimensions in the living room.
