The litre figure on a bin liner looks like a simple size guide. A bin, however, has a particular height, opening and shape as well as a volume. Two containers of similar capacity can therefore need different liner formats. Check the existing bin before buying a large supply.

If the current liner fits well, keep its exact dimensions or product description. Another pack with the same litre rating can have a different shape. Width and length are often more useful for assessing the fit than volume alone.

Account for the opening and rim

The liner needs to fit over the intended rim and work with the bin's holding arrangement. A retaining ring or inner bucket changes the usable opening. Measure that area and consider whether extra material is needed to fold over the edge.

A short bag may hang from the rim without reaching the bottom. An oversized one can form awkward folds or interfere with closing. Do not automatically choose the largest option merely because the price per bag is similar.

Check closure and waste type

Drawstrings, handles and plain open edges serve different routines. Consider how the bag will be removed and closed. Avoid paying for a closure that is cut away or never used with your bin.

Permitted bags for particular waste streams depend on local collection rules. For organic waste especially, a product label should not automatically be treated as permission to place it in the local collection. Check the waste provider's information before purchasing.

Test the fit before stocking up

When changing size or material, a small pack is easier to assess than a large reserve. Observe fit, removal and suitability for the intended contents within the product's stated use. An unsuitable load does not become appropriate because the bag was inexpensive.

Then compare the price per usable liner. Rolls with different bag counts can look similar on a shelf while supplying different quantities. A short note of the dimensions and suitable variant prevents the size decision from starting again at the next purchase.
