A removable lining promises several uses from one coat. Whether that flexibility helps depends on how often your needs change. Someone making the same short winter journeys may not need another conversion feature. Someone moving between mild and cold days or different locations may find it more valuable.
Try the coat in both intended configurations. With the lining fitted, it should not pull over your usual clothes. Without it, the coat should not feel so loose or uneven that you would avoid wearing it. Check the sleeves as well: depending on the construction, room there may change differently from space around the body. A good fit in only one configuration does not establish the usefulness of both.
Try the changeover
Inspect the attachments and ask how the lining is inserted. Small buttons, zips and loops should be understandable to operate. Consider whether you would actually change it in everyday life. If the lining is removed once and forgotten in a drawer, you have paid for an option that sees little use.
Read the coat's and lining's care instructions separately. Different materials may need different treatment. Plan a storage place for the unused component and keep the relevant information together. A replacement lining for this exact model may not be easy to find later; ask about availability if replaceability matters to you.
Compare the arrangement with an unconvertible coat and an extra layer you already own. Include weight, freedom of movement and bulk while worn as well as price. A combination does not become better merely because it contains more pieces. Equally, a well-fitting integrated solution may be convenient if you dislike arranging separate layers each morning.
Judge it against one representative cold day and one representative milder day. If the coat fits convincingly in both situations and the change is easy to make, the removable lining has a specific purpose. If you would rarely use one version, a simpler coat may be the more suitable purchase. The decision then follows your routine rather than the number of wearing options advertised on the label.
